About the area
Speikboden is a compact area of about 30 km of pistes in the Dolomites, and the balance leans firmly towards easy skiing: 17 km, or 56% of the terrain, is graded green or blue, with 10 km of red. Three magic carpets handle first turns, so beginners and families with small children have a sensible place to start. Only 3 km, some 9%, is black or expert terrain, so strong skiers looking for steep, sustained descents will run out of new ground quickly.
Nine lifts serve the mountain: two gondolas, three chairlifts, one platter and the three carpets. The gondolas matter for families, since young kids can ride up without loading a chairlift. The slopes run from 938 m at the valley floor to 2,398 m at the top, so the upper mountain holds snow far better than the lowest sections.
