Claviere is a small area in the French Southern Alps with about 40 km of marked pistes, and most of it sits in the easy-to-middling range: 2 km green, 18 km blue and 19 km red, with only 2 km of black terrain (5%). Beginners are well served — 48% of the runs are green or blue (19 km), there are 15 short easy runs next to a lift base, and a magic carpet for first turns. Families can ski here, but with the caveat that a single magic carpet is the only very gentle learning lift. Experts will run out of options quickly: 2 km of black and a maximum vertical of 449 m on one run.
Ten lifts serve the slopes, nine of them chairlifts, so access is straightforward. Skiing runs between 1,535 m and 2,399 m, and the longest single descent measures 5,930 m.
