Skiarea Valchiavenna – Madesimo

About the area

Valchiavenna links Madesimo and Campodolcino with about 35 km of pistes, split fairly evenly between easy and intermediate terrain: roughly 15 km is green or blue (42% of the area) and about 15 km is red. That makes it a sound choice for beginners and families — there is a magic carpet for first turns, 15 short easy runs sit next to a lift base, and two gondola/cable-car lifts mean small children never have to load a chairlift. Experts get less: only 5 km, or 15%, is black, expert or marked freeride, including 3 km of freeride.

The ski area runs from 1537 m up to 2877 m, so the upper slopes hold snow well, and the longest descent is 2745 m with 970 m of vertical. Fifteen lifts serve it: one gondola, one cable car, three funiculars, nine chairlifts and one magic carpet. About 2 km of piste is floodlit for evening skiing.
