About the area

Dachstein West is mostly intermediate ground: of about 38 km of pistes, 27 km are red and only 1 km is black, so strong skiers will run out of challenge quickly — the longest single vertical is 625 m. Beginners have a workable but limited base, with 9 km of easy pistes (23% of the area) and seven short easy runs right next to a lift bottom. Families get seven magic carpets for first turns, and four gondola or cable-car lifts mean small children can avoid chairlift loading, though nine chairlifts still carry much of the traffic.

The 25 lifts span 744 m to 1616 m, which is low, so plan around mid-winter conditions rather than late spring. The longest descent measures 3533 m. There is also about 1 km of floodlit piste for evening skiing.
