Metabief – Mont d'or in the French Jura is a small area built around easy skiing: 70% of its 26 km of pistes are green or blue (18 km), and there are 10 short easy runs next to a lift base, so beginners can repeat terrain without long traverses. Experts will run out of options quickly – only 2 km, or 7%, is black or freeride terrain, and the longest vertical on a single run is 402 m. Families can ski here, but with the caveat that progression beyond blue level is limited: just 6 km of red.

The slopes run from 1013 m to 1418 m, so snow depends on the season at this altitude. Twelve lifts serve the area, mostly drag lifts (8) plus 4 chairs. The longest run measures 2924 m. There are also 20 km of cross-country trails and 1 km of floodlit piste for evening skiing.
