About the area
La Chapelle d'Abondance is a small, gentle area: 26 km of pistes, of which 7 km green, 11 km blue and 7 km red. With 72% of the terrain green or blue (19 km) it works well for people still building confidence and for intermediates happy to cruise. Experts have little reason to come — there are no black or marked freeride pistes at all. Families can ski here, but note that only one lift is a gondola, so most of the uphill travel means chairlifts and surface lifts, which is harder with small children.
Eleven lifts serve the slopes: one gondola, three chairlifts, two T-bars, four platters and one further drag lift. The vertical runs from 994 m at the bottom to 1796 m at the top, so snow at the lower levels depends on the season. The area is part of the larger Espace Liberté.
