About the area

Formigal spreads 104 km of pistes across the Aragonese Pyrenees, and the balance leans hard: 35 km red plus 30 km black, 2 km expert and 5 km marked freeride, so 37% of the terrain is difficult. Strong intermediates and experts get the most out of it, with 717 m of vertical on a single descent and the longest run at 3383 m. Beginners are not shut out — 5 magic carpets and 13 short easy runs sit next to lift bases — but only 27% of the area (29 km) is green or blue, and just 1 km of that is green, so families should expect to stay on a few limited sectors.

The lift system is 26 installations: 13 chairlifts, 7 drag lifts, 1 platter and 5 magic carpets, which makes moving between sectors straightforward once you know the layout. Skiing runs from 1501 m to 2263 m, a total vertical of 762 m, so the upper slopes hold conditions better than the valley returns.
