Espace Lumière

About the area

Espace Lumière in the Southern Alps spreads 185 km of pistes across a mix that leans steep: 57 km red, 13 km black and 2 km rated expert, plus 59 km of marked freeride terrain. Together that is 74 km, about 40% of the area, which is why it works best for confident skiers and off-piste hunters. Beginners and families get 54 km of green and blue (29%) and six magic carpets for first turns, but the balance of difficulty means careful route planning.

The ski area runs from 1,495 m to 2,591 m, so the upper sectors hold snow better than the valley, where 27 km of snowmaking backs up the lower pistes. Thirty-eight lifts serve the terrain: 12 chairlifts, 12 platters, four other drag lifts, two rope tows, six carpets and two gondolas, useful with small children who cannot load a chairlift.
